Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support Center Print | Rate this content How to configure uplink failure detection ( UFD) on a GBE2 C/ GBE2 C L2/ L3 Switch using the web management interface. This example uses GBE2 C firmware. Version or above is required for monitoring a dynamic LACP channel (dynamic trunk). Uplink Failure Detection ( UFD) is designed to support Network Adapter Teaming on HP server blades. UFD allows the switch to monitor specific uplink ports to detect link failures. When the switch detects a link failure, it automatically disables specific downlink ports. The corresponding server’s network adapter can detect the disabled downlink, and trigger a network-adapter failover to another port on the switch, or another switch in the chassis. The switch automatically enables the downlink ports when the uplink returns to service. UFD is configured as a link to monitor ( Lt M) and a link to disable ( Lt D). The switch will monitor the uplink ( Lt M (or static trunk group or dynamic LACP trunk if the uplink or all ports in a static or dynamic trunk being monitored fail, the GBE2 C will disable the blade nics (downlink ports) defined in the link, to disable ( Lt D). From the Uplink Failure Detection Configuration screen turn on UFD, and then select Submit: Step 9. Apply the changes: Step 10. Do not forget to save the new configuration if you are satisfied with the results.
Print | Rate this content When using the Gb E2c Firmware Upgrade Utility and finding switches on your network, subsequent attempts to upgrade the switches will not work. It may also appear that downloading of the image to the switch has failed. Prior to attempting an upgrade with the Firmware Upgrade Utility, make sure to change the SNMP Write string from public to private. If this is not done, the new code will not be written to the switch. As a workaround, the customer may perform the image upgrades by way of the serial console port via XModem. You cannot configure a trunk member as a monitor port in a Port Mirroring configuration. A monitor port cannot monitor trunks; however, trunk members can be monitored. Port trunking example In this example, the Gigabit uplink ports on each switch, and the crosslink ports are configured into a total of five trunk groups: two on each switch, and one trunk group at the crosslink between the two switches. All ports operate at Gigabit Ethernet speed. NOTE: The actual mapping of switch ports to NIC interfaces is dependant on the operating system software, the type of server blade, and the enclosure type. Figure 1 Port trunk group configuration example The trunk groups are configured as follows: Trunk group 1 is configured by default on the crosslink ports 17 and 18, which connect the switches 1 and 2 together. Since this is the default configuration, you do not need to configure trunk group 1 on either switch. By default, ports 17 and 18 are disabled. Trunk groups 2-5 consist of two Gigabit uplink ports each, configured to act as a single link to the upstream routers. The trunk groups on each switch are configured so that there is a link to each router for redundancy. Prior to configuring each switch in this example, you must connect to the appropriate switch CLI as the administrator.
