If you have an i River music player and you’re still using i River’s Music Manager software to copy files to your player, do yourself a favor and upgrade the firmware to one of the UMS versions. UMS stands for USB Mass Storage, and it will let you use any computer (and any operating system) to move files to and from your player. One of the artificial ( DRM) limitations in the music manager is that it prevents you from moving music files from the player to a computer. I’ve updated both of our i River i FP-899 players to version 1.28 UMS. For some reason I had to try out five different copies of the firmware upgrade before I found one that “took”, so here’s a copy of it in case I (or any of my three readers :-) ever need it again: ifp890us-ums128.zip. Some sites also mentioned a newer firmware version (1.95 UMS but I was only able to find a Japanese version of it, so I’m holding off on that version.
