1 USB ports not working - Code 39 error Hi! The USB ports (3) on Acer Aspire 5942 G have stopped working. This 5942 G is a dual boot computer with Windows 7 / Ubuntu 12.04. The USB ports are working fine in Ubuntu 12.04 - so, it is not a hardware problem. I used the touchpad, instead of the USB mouse, in Windows 7 until now - I need to sync my i Phone - and hence need access to the USB ports. Looking into the problem in the device manager I can see a on the USB Controller - Intel( R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 3 B34 and Intel( R) 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 3 B3 C. I uninstalled the device drivers for both the above problems, re-started the machine and expected the drivers to be installed automatically. Still same problem. Again, I uninstalled the drivers and forced it to be installed (manually) from a fresh copy of the device drivers from Acer's website. Still same problem. Triggered ' Troubleshoot' from Devices & Printers for the computer. ' Troubleshoot' identified the problem and applied the fix. But the device driver was not successfully installed. Looking at the driver status, I see the message Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing ( Code 39). Any help / pointers to resolve the problem will be gratefully appreciated. Regards, Ashok. I did see that post in About.com. However, aligning on the side of caution - it was specific to CD / DVD drives, though it does allude to other hardware as well - I did not try that fix. If your keyboard is not working, and its status is listed as “ Code 39” in device manager, there is a good chance a simple registry edit can fix the issue. Here is what you need to do: * UPDATE: I’ve created a REG file that when run should fix the problem. However, I’ve only tested the REG file on my computer and I cannot guarantee it will work for you. I would recommend you read the manual solution steps below and follow them if you feel comfortable. If not, or if the manual steps don’t solve your problem then try the automatic steps. Automatic fix: Download this file to your desktop. Close down all open programs. Double click the file “kb_code39_fix.reg” on your desktop. If you receive a security warning, go ahead and select the option to run. When asked if you are sure you want to add the information into the registry, click “ Yes.” You will be notified that not all data was successfully written to the registry, this is OK.
